Caye David, Jalan Jalan
our history

Jalan Jalan Home

Jalan Jalan Home has been traveling to Bali and sourcing beautiful antiques, textiles, accessories, and cultural elements since 1997.

Visitors to the showroom in Nashville and the website, have the opportunity to procure investment-grade and museum-quality pieces as well as one-of-kind creations. Jalan Jalan’s in-country partner of twenty-five years and continued personal travel keep this important friendship and source thriving.

The recently created Ancient Modern collection utilizes the warmth of reclaimed teak with the freedom and confidence of modern design. Skilled artisans in our Balinese workshop create and restore these inspirational pieces using the beauty of organic materials in expressive and inviting ways.

People often ask what Jalan Jalan means.  It’s an expression of casual ease used in the busy marketplace that says, “I’m just looking, I’m just going for a walk.” Take a walk through Jalan Jalan Home and take your time to enjoy the casual elegance that is Bali and what it has to offer, curated over decades of treasure hunting on the Island of the Gods.

our founder

caye David

While visiting Bali on holiday with her daughter in 1996, Caye David fell in love with the culture, its people, and the Balinese artful approach to life. From agrarian tools to temple attire, the Balinese made everything with beautiful carving, color, and design. The appreciation of beauty was also found in their furniture and textiles. Looking for a way to make trips to Bali doable on a regular basis, Caye met her business partner, Amir, on a subsequent trip.

With his ability to travel to many Indonesian islands, his keen eye and his understanding of Caye’s aesthetic, Jalan Jalan was born. Enjoying a special friendship, watching his young family grow over the years and being treated like family whenever she was in Bali,  made the business of Jalan Jalan more than just a business. What began as a small venture twenty-five years ago with one half-filled container, grew into twice yearly trips to Bali for Caye and several containers each year. Together they created the Ancient Modern line, utilizing reclaimed old teak to create modern designs in the Bali Workshop. Today, the Jalan Jalan brand is known for its authenticity and expertise in procuring hand-selected beautiful things for discerning clients. With clientele coast to coast, including many celebrities in the home base of Nashville, Jalan Jalan continues to fill a unique niche in the design field.
